Although Miracle on Fulton won’t be found this year due to Manning’s Restaurant being built, the holiday season is still very alive and well throughout New Orleans area. The next few weekends are full of some fun activities for kids and adults that will soon put you into the “Jingle-Jangle” spirit just like our beloved Mr. Bingle.

Celebration in the Oaks
Sunday thru Thursday 6:00pm-10:00pm., Friday & Saturday 6:00pm-11:00pm.

Fabulous new exhibits, nightly entertainment, synthetic ice skating rink, amusement park rides. “Experience and enjoy one of the country’s most unique month-long holiday festival of lights!” A beloved holiday tradition for the last 25 years, with over 122,000 visitors in 2010.

Lafreniere Park Holiday In The Park Christmas Light Display – Dec 2 2011 to Jan 1, 2012, Dusk

More than a dozen new lighted displays added to compliment the displays donated by the Al Copeland Family. Open Sun thru Thurs from 5:30 pm to 9:45 pm and Fri and Sat from 5:30 pm to 11:45 pm. Entrance fee: $3 per vehicle. Downs Blvd entrance CLOSED at 5:00 pm. Vehicles must enter the park only from W. Napoleon Ave and exit on Veterans Blvd or W. Napoleon.

Louisiana Children’s MuseumFestival of Trees Enchanted Premiere Party Friday, December 2, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Festival of Trees will kick off with a special Enchanted Premiere Party on Friday, December 2, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This adult-only event will feature delectable desserts and cool cocktails throughout our forest of playfully decorated trees. On display will also be unique auction items and a raffle sure to get you in the gift-giving mood. Plus, enjoy a 15% discount in our Museum Store. Tickets for the Enchanted Premiere Party are $25 per person and available at www.lcm.org.

Holiday Movies on the Mississippi

Riverwalk’s Spanish Plaza at 6:30 p.m.

The Downtown Development District and Riverwalk Marketplace present two weekends of special outdoor movie showings! Join us on Spanish Plaza December 2nd for Elf and on December 9th for The Year Without a Santa Claus. Enjoy hot chocolate, tasty treats and the beautiful Mississippi River with your family, friends and neighbors. The first 50 families at each showing will receive a free Canal Street: Home for the Holidays fleece blanket!

Krewe of Jingle Parade

Parade will roll on Canal Street

Back for its fourth year, New Orleans’ official holiday parade, the “Krewe of Jingle,” will once again delight locals and visitors alike with authentic parade floats, marching bands, stilt walkers, Christmas characters and many more magical surprises! After the parade, all are invited to join in the merriment at The Roosevelt New Orleans hotel’s Baronne Street entrance for the “Jingle Mingle”—this block party will transform the block into a wonderful wintery wonderland with music, games, food, crafts and more! The Jingle & Mingle block party on 100 Baronee Street will follow the parade.

Louisiana Children’s Museum Festival of Trees Family Preview Brunch
Saturday, December 3, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

On Saturday, December 3, we invite the whole family to join in on the fun with our Family Preview Brunch from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Families will be among the first to explore the wonders of our artistically-inspired trees. Enjoy a delicious brunch and mingle with Mr. Bingle. Participate in a special Story Time by Berthe Amoss at 11:00 a.m. and get creative with holiday-themed crafts. Tickets for the Family Preview Brunch are $12 for members / $15 for non-members. The exhibit will remain on display until December 29, 2011 with the cost of admission.

Algiers Holiday Bonfire
Saturday, December 3

The Algiers Bonfire on Dec. 3 and Noel on Newton on Dec. 10 will provide two weekends of activities in the neighborhoods of Old Algiers as part of the Algiers Holiday Festival and Bonfire. The annual bonfire will include a public release of Katrina woes with the burning of Jana Napoli’s massive artwork, The Floodwall. Reindeer Run & Romp

Canal Street, beginning and ending at the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas

Calling all kids! The Downtown Development District and Entergy present the annual holiday fun run for kids on Canal Street! Rudolph, Santa and friends will jingle their bells to signal the start of the race. Participants will receive bells for their sneakers, antlers, a race t-shirt and a bag of holiday goodies. After the race, “Romp” around the Aquarium and enjoy healthy activities like yoga for kids & parents, pictures with Santa, music, games, crafts and more.

Snow Day at Lafreniere

Snow Day returns for the kids – Bigger and better than ever! Located in the area between shelters 7 & 8 for children 12 & younger! Free admission to “snow” area; however there will be a $3 per vehicle charge to enter Park beginning at 5:30 pm.
