With it being Mardi Gras weekend, it’s only fair to say we must have a drink that reflects the spirit of the carnival season. Old New Orleans Rum is a favorite brand of NOLA’s Patry Girl, and I was thrilled with excitement to try their latest creation, ZULU MILK. This drink is perfect for anytime, but will really get the party started on Mardi Gras morning.
ZULU MILK
1.5 oz. Old New Orleans Amber Rum
.5 oz. Malibu Rum
.5 oz. White Creme de Cocoa
Splash of Milk or Cream
Mix ingredients together and serve over ice.
The creation of local New Orleans Artists and Musicians, Old New Orleans Rum is Louisiana’s only distilled spirit. All rums are handcrafted using local sugar cane, homemade caramel and authentic flavors and spices. Now exclusively owned by artist James Michalopoulos, Celebration Distillation produces for varieties of Old New Orleans Rum. The Crystal rum is the purest rum, double distilled, un-aged and blended with Madagascar Vanilla. The 3-year aged rum carries the flavors of the whiskey barrels it’s aged in and caramel made at the distillery. The Cajun Spice rum is a blend of aged rums with an infusion of natural spices, caramel, vanilla and a hint of cayenne. The 10 year aged rum is produced in limited quantity and available only at the distillery. The distillery has been in operation since 1996 and is located at 2815 Frenchmen St. in Gentilly. Tours are available Monday-Friday at 12pm, 2pm & 4pm and Saturdays at 2pm & 4pm. More information is available at www.oldneworleansrum.com
