Cork & Bottle, the boutique wine shop located in Mid-City’s American Can Company (3700 Orleans Avenue), is hosting a special free tasting this Friday, February 3 from 5-7pm, featuring Rupert Symington, Joint Managing Director for Symington Family Estates.
Rupert Symington is a fourth generation member of the Symington family, Port shippers in Portugal since 1882. As Joint Managing Director of the family’s Port interests with his cousins Paul and Johnny, Rupert has the specific responsibility of Sales Director for the US and Canada, as well as other smaller markets. Additionally, he is the acting President of the Madeira Wine Company, shippers of Blandy, Cossart and Leacock Madeiras, and oversees the family’s investments in Prats & Symington, a joint project with Bruno Prats of Bordeaux fame, which produces Chryseia and Post Scriptum.
Symington Family Estates, renowned for its Vintage Ports, is the oldest family owned Port shipper and the largest landholder in the Douro Valley with over 2,500 acres of vineyards. Its portfolio includes the esteemed houses of W. & J. Graham, Dow, Smith Woodhouse, Quinta do Vesuvio, Warre, Gould Campbell and Quarles Harris. Cork & Bottle also offers complimentary wine tastings every Thursday and Friday from 5-7 pm. The shop is open Sunday noon to 5pm, Monday 3-7 pm; Tuesday-Friday 11am-8pm, Saturday 10:30 am to 7:30 pm
