The Krewe of MOMs Announces Annual Halloween Costume Ball

Honey Island Swamp Band, the Revivalists, Kids on Bridges To Play
Membership in Krewe for Costume Contest Winner

The legendary Krewe of Mystic Orphans and Misfits annual Halloween Costume Ball will be held at the Howlin’ Wolf music club on October 29, 2011.

Kids on Bridges open the show at 9 PM. This electro pop duo from Liverpool, England creates incredibly filthy dance music that will get the costumed butts of the Halloween revelers moving from the first notes.

Kids on Bridges have been compared to everyone from the Killers and Daft Punk to Phoenix and Depeche Mode, but their sound owes a deep debt to the music of New Orleans. Bandleader Christian Bragg is a frequent visitor to the Crescent City and hosts a New Orleans music show on Jazz FM in the United Kingdom. The group has worked with frequent Chemical Brothers collaborator Steve Dub and counts electronica pioneer Gary Numan among their celebrity fans.

The Honey Island Swamp Band needs no introduction to fans of roots rock. Emerging from the chaos of the Hurricane Katrina diaspora, the group has been hitting on all cylinders of late including sold out shows across the country.

The band, which is centered around mandolin player Aaron “A-Ron” Wilkinson and guitarist Chris Mule’s melodic roots rock compositions, puts on an incredible show that never fails to get the crowd moving. They will play two sets at the ball beginning at 10:30 PM.

The two sets bookend the legendary costume contest that begins at midnight. For decades, the best designers in New Orleans have vied for the coveted first prize, which is a complimentary year’s membership in the krewe of MOMs, a notoriously difficult krewe to enter, as is their carnival ball. The krewe’s Mardi Gras Ball is widely known as the world’s best Carnival costume party.

The ball gets into high gear in the wee-wee hours when the Revivalists hit the stage for an epic set. This young New Orleans rock band has been captivating audiences with a kinetic live show and melodic songs that bridge the gap between indie and classic rock. Their original songs are soulful and earnest earning them the Big Easy’s Best Emerging Artist award in 2011.

Where Ya’t from!!! You know you are a New Orleans Local if you know what I mean when I say ‘we’re makin’ groceries or I ask how’s your mam-ane’m’, and that’s who Brett and Cheryl Bauman and WVUE FOX8 are. New Orleans is a city that you just can’t help but fall in love with; from its history and culture, to its fine cuisine that can only be described as uniquely Nawlins. We wanted to give us Locals a single resource guide that describes all of the fascinating things that our city has to offer to us every day and we have done it through the creation of is a New Orleans Event Calendar website that is designed on three words: Simple, Complete, and Local. New Orleanians have no single source to go to, to find out what is happening around in the city. Normally, we just ask our friends where they are going or try to sift through the endless internet. We have solved this problem with a simple-to-use Calendar. The calendar is arranged by events that are organized by date into categories such as Music, Food, and Festivals.  So, if you want to know what is happening this weekend in the music world, you can select the music category on the calendar and find out who is playing where in the city. If you don’t know what you want to do this week, you can check out our top picks for the week of fun things to do. If you have a fun event that you recommend, submit your event to us and we will add it to our calendar. It is that simple.
