At the SID THE SCIENCE KID BIG EVENT, little scientists will receive a Little Scientist Journal that will serve as a guide to the various activities around the Kenner Science Center. These journals will help children with the practice of close observation. Once they have recorded their findings, a Science Center volunteer will stamp each completed activity. Once their Journal is finished, they will receive a gift bag filled with all sorts of cool goodies. Little scientists will also get to meet and take pictures with Sid! So be sure to bring your camera and smile.
Also, attendees can meet author Lynda Wurster Deniger of Patti the Pelican and The Gulf Oil Spill. Watch as she acts out characters from the book, and shows how oiled birds are cared for, cleaned and rehabilitated. Dave James, a professional guitarist, singer, songwriter, and educator for Young Audiences, will be on hand performing Mathematical Melodies, where he uses various songs to illustrate the deep connection between music and mathematics. The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation’s Education Department will provide children with hands-on opportunities to experience and appreciate the wonders of Lake Pontchartrain.
Parents! We didn’t forget about you. At the event, view an episode of SID THE SCIENCE KID and learn how to use the series at home to enhance your child’s early learning skills. A special gift from SID THE SCIENCE KID will be given to the first 20 parents who sign up that day.
