Bookbinding with Eugenia Uhl
July 10 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm$35.00
In this workshop, students will be introduced to the art of bookbinding. The class will be led by Eugenia Uhl, a calligrapher, photographer, and bookmaker from New Orleans. Eugenia often uses the book form to feature her calligraphy, showcasing her work at the New Orleans Book Fair with Babylon Lexicon.
Specifically, the class will focus on the Japanese style of bookbinding. This historic practice was first developed in China in the second century AD and eventually made its way to Japan by the late 16th century. Here, it flourished and became the standard for printed books that were handmade and heavily calligraphed. It remains a popular form of bookmaking today.
All levels of students are welcome to join this class, including those just beginning their study of bookbinding.
Please be mindful that class sizes are small with social distancing in place. Spots will fill up quickly!
The class will take place on Saturday, July 10 from 10:30am to 12:30pm
The registration fee does not include materials. Students will receive a supply list after registering with items necessary for the workshop.
