Friday Night Open Hours at the Music Box Village
January 24 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm$3 – $12.
Open Hours invite guests to explore the Village and get hands-on with our ‘musical architecture.’
During certain hours, musician docents are present in the Village giving guests a more in-depth look at how Music Box instruments work, leading visitors in improvised music-making and talking about the project in more detail. These New Orleans musicians make great Village guides! Thanks to the Positive Vibrations Foundation sponsoring our docent program!
Musician Docents- 6-8PM Free Feral and Emily Mikesell
Free is a multi-disciplinary artist whose songwriting explores psychic landscapes thru blues and folk traditions using cello, viola, guitar, vocals & loops. They have collaborated with Leyla McCalla and Junebug Productions, among others. As a composer, they score film and radio projects, including Last Call, a queer oral history podcast, where they also serve as a producer, editor, and host. In 2019, free was one of Found Sound Nation’s One Beat fellows.
Emily is a New Orleans based trumpet player and the leader of Smiloh, an up and coming electro-acoustic trio that mixes Bjork inspired songwriting with soulful trumpet solos. Emily loves to collaborate with other artists and is thrilled by exploring the sonic possibilities of the Music Box Village.
