Opéra Louisiane presents Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly”

Opéra Louisiane brings Giacomo Puccini’s timeless classic, “Madama Butterfly,” to the Raising Cane’s River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts on Saturday, April 11 at 7 p.m. One of opera’s most poignant tales of unrequited love, “Madama Butterfly” tells the iconic story of Cio-Cio-San, a young Japanese woman whose devotion and hope are tested after she falls in love with an American officer stationed in Nagasaki. The beloved story, set in the early 20thcentury, is set to soaring melodies, lush orchestration and some of the most celebrated music ever written for the opera stage.
Headlining Opéra Louisiane’s production is soprano Teresa Perrotta, a 2023 Grand Finals winner of the Metropolitan Opera’s prestigious Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition and the 2023 Sullivan Foundation Award who made her Metropolitan Opera debut last season. Her April 11 appearance in Baton Rouge marks her debut in the iconic role of Cio-Cio-San (Butterfly). Tenor Joshua Dennis will perform the role of Pinkerton, Baritone Dennis Jesse will sing the role of Sharpless, and Mezzo Soprano Hilary Ginther will play Suzuki. The production’s artistic director and conductor is Michael Borowitz, and Josh Shaw is stage director.
