Tennessee Williams Theater Company of New Orleans Presents: Vieux Carré
August 19, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
|Recurring Event (See all)
An event every week that begins at 7:00 pm on Sunday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until August 19, 2018
TWTC kicks off its fourth season with an all star cast. Set at 722 Toulouse Street, Vieux Carré follows a young writer, not unlike Williams himself, who arrives one winter in the Crescent City for the first time and falls in love with the fabled French Quarter. It’s a dangerous affair, though, and one that involves ambiguous love triangles, desperate longing, and heartbreak. Will the boy be able to navigate his way out of the fog teeming with quarter characters, starving society ladies, hustlers, and buskers? Or will he find himself crushed in the flood of carnal and spiritual desire?

The church building was originally Holy Trinity Catholic Church, which was founded in 1847 for German Catholics of the Faubourg Marigny. Constructed in 1853, the church was designed by architect Theodore Giraud. The church was widely admired for the quality of its music. In 1997 the parish was relocated and the building deconsecrated. Scott King and Dave Hurlbert purchased the building in July 2011, with the vision of restoring the historic building and offering it as a resource to the community, and the building was renamed “The Marigny Opera House.”
