Tiki Culture: From the South Pacific to Pontchartrain Beach

Join us for a discussion on Tiki drinking culture from its early beginnings after Prohibition to its explosion as a global phenomenon after World War II. Learn how GIs returning from the South Pacific came home with new tastes and embraced this new style of dining and drinking. Drinks historian Elizabeth Pearce will highlight the explosion of Tiki bars (Don the Beachcomber, Trader Vic’s & New Orleans’ own Bali Ha’i) in cities across the country and how the movement dovetailed with both veterans and civilians’ desire to capture a little of the island life, whether by visiting the US territory of Hawaii or creating it in their own backyard. You won’t want to miss this evening of cocktails and history! South Pacific attire encouraged! (Includes 3 cocktails)

Price: $50 ($47 Members)
