October 16 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 8:00 am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until November 21, 2020
M.S. Rau will unveil its new installation “Time Across Time: Clocks and the Art of Timekeeping” at its gallery at 622 Royal Street in New Orleans, Louisiana on Friday, October 16, 2020. The curated installation, which will also be available as a virtual exhibition via MSRau.com, will feature historic timepieces and artworks that will explore humans’ conception of time. M.S. Rau will be hosting an opening night party from 5 PM to 8 PM, which coincides with the Revel on Royal, an event of shopping, music and revelry that celebrates the many treasures of the French Quarter. Time Across Time, which is free and open to the public, will run through November 21, 2020.
What You Need To Know About Time Across Time
The installation, which features over 30 pieces, seeks to situate our relationship to time within the technological and historical contexts that so heavily influence our experience of time. A number of different themes will be explored, including the birth of our modern conception of time, how time is inexorably linked to notions of progress, and the inevitability of the passage of time.
This display of timepieces, fine art and objets d’art from M.S. Rau’s extensive collection features works that date from the Renaissance to the present day. An impressive selection of clocks forms the heart of the display, including an exceptionally rare Renaissance-age turret clock, a mind-boggling mystery clock by the legendary Robert Houdin, and technologically-advanced time systems by the great Patek Philippe, among many others. Adding depth to the installation are a selection of important objets d’art and fine art related to concepts of time and mortality, such as an important oil on canvas by Albert Janesch and a stunning pair of hardstone obelisks.
