Enjoy a glass of wine before and after the parade! Come catch your beads at Patrick’s Bar Vin!
On Friday, February 17, 2017 at 3pm, the Krewe of Cork is hitting the French Quarter Streets. The Krewe starts on Royal Street between Toulouse Street and St. Peter’s Street. There is sure to be lots of Fun and Revelry hitting the French Quarter. Click here for more information.
“We celebrate Wine! Food! Fun!” says King Patrick van Hoorebeek, speaking of the Krewe of Cork. Founded in 2000, the Krewe of Cork has grown into a world famous Mardi Gras and wine industry phenomenon. Krewe members gather on selected Fridays, usually the first Friday of each month, at restaurants throughout the area for T.G.I.C.D (Thank Goodness It’s Cork Day).
The Krewe’s two main events of the year are the Mardi Gras season parade day festivities, and participation in the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience Royal Street Stroll. Throughout the year, we invite members to wine dinners and other special occasions such as road trips and wine tastings.
This year’s queen is Sarah Blosch. Sarah has been an active member of the Krewe since 2006. She has volunteered in Parade Day preparations, working with other Krewe members preparing parade day packages, and in the past several years, she has been responsible for checking everyone in at the Court of Two Sisters. She has assisted in many other Krewe activities including festivities associated with the Royal Street Stroll during the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience.
This year’s Grand Marshal is Justin Baldwin. Justin Vineyards & Winery is Wine Enthusiast magazine’s American Winery of the year. In 2000, Wine Spectator magazine ranked Justin’s 1997 Isosceles as the sixth best wine in the world in a list of the top 100, and the wine has continued to draw high scores from critics. As the enterprise matured with a vineyard and cellar team, he dialed back his winemaking activities and devoted more time to marketing. He continues to take part in blending signature wines.
The Krewe of Cork is more than 400 members strong. If you are not a permanent resident of New Orleans, please do not feel excluded. The Krewe has members that are locals, residents throughout the USA, and international travelers.
