Soul Sister presents the 3rd Annual Purple Takeover: A Prince Celebration on June 8.  Party up to all Prince and Prince-related Jams and B-Sides all night celebrating Prince’s birthday weekend. A portion of proceeds will be donated to Big Class, a non-profit organization that offers innovative, volunteer-supported writing programs to New Orleans youth and schools free of charge.  The even was previously known as REVOLUTION: A PRINCE Celebration.

DJ Soul Sister

DJ Soul Sister is the award-winning “queen of rare groove,” and not only one of the longest-running live DJ artists (mixing and blending 100% vinyl) in her hometown of New Orleans, but known worldwide as a vinyl crate digger, party promoter, and tastemaker. As a veteran radio programmer on WWOZ FM for nearly two decades, she is the host and founder of the popular “Soul Power,” the longest-running rare groove radio show in the U.S., and was cited by New York Times pop music critic Ben Ratliff as “What to Do This Weekend.” Music artist Solange called her “wonderful” and “life given,” and dj artist King Britt said she was “the best…top 3 DJs for me.”
Her live, improvisational, and vinyl-only funk and rare groove music sets have also landed her everywhere from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Voodoo Music Experience, Essence Music Festival, BUKU Music & Art Project, Jam Cruise, Boiler Room, and Electric Forest; to opening for her favorite artists like George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic, The Roots, Bootsy Collins, Maceo Parker, DaM-FunK, Average White Band, George Duke, Teena Marie, ConFunkShun, the funky Meters, Dumpstaphunk, Chuck Brown & the Soul Searchers, Soul Rebels, Lettuce, and more; to features on MTV UK and VH1 and in Spin, Wax Poetics, URB, OffBeat, and New Orleans magazines. She has also performed alongside DJ artist/producers such as Questlove, Mannie Fresh, KON, Maseo (De La Soul), Low Down Loretta Brown (Erykah Badu), Rich Medina, Skeme Richards, and many others. DJ Lenka Paris


Lenka Paris is a dj known for her flawless mixing of house, hip hop, pop, funk, soul and disco. Born in Czech Republic (then Czechoslovakia), she first touched a turntable (then record player) at age 5 and was fascinated. At 17 she learned how to dj, which became a profession after graduating high school. She became a resident dj in a nightclub which soon after won Best Nightclub in Czech Republic award. She was also working with a hip hop group which released a couple of albums on Euro Universal Records.
