Shuck Cancer

Champions Square, New Orleans

The American Cancer Society’s Junior Executive Board welcomes you to Shuck Cancer! This board is formed by young professionals in the business community, in partnership with New Orleans restauranteur, John Michael Rowland, to raise awareness and funds through our signature event, Shuck Cancer. Known as the best party with a purpose in town, Shuck Cancer showcases oysters from across the country, wine pairings, spirits, 30 local restaurants providing non-oyster cuisine, live music, and mobile bidding for our silent auction. Since its inception in 2018, Shuck Cancer donors have raised over ONE MILLION DOLLARS for our Access to Care Grant Program benefiting Louisiana health systems by providing their patients transportation & lodging assistance. We look forward to having you join us as we equalize cancer outcomes for our community!

Mission Funding: Patient Support & Transportation

The American Cancer Society provides information and resources to help patients and their loved ones manage through cancer treatment and recovery, and to help with the emotional support they need. They also work to remove barriers that stand between the patient and lifesaving treatment. For many patients with cancer, transportation challenges can create barriers to receive the treatment they need. Many people need daily or weekly treatment, often for several months. Family and friends may help, but they may not always have the time or resources to provide every ride. The American Cancer Society is proud to provide transportation assistance to those in need, by giving free rides to cancer-related medical appointments.

In 2022 alone, the American Cancer Society provided more than 323,000 rides to more than 35,000 patients in need through transportation programs.

For more than 10 decades, the American Cancer Society has been dedicated to pursuing better outcomes for every cancer, every life. Today, more people are surviving cancer than ever before, but there is still work to be done. Join us, support us, and help us end cancer as we know it, for everyone.

All sponsorship dollars procured are 100% restricted to our Louisiana Access to Care efforts which includes transportation & lodging grants to health systems in New Orleans as well across the state so The American Cancer Society can equalize cancer outcomes by providing an equitable resolution to reduce barriers to treatment completion. These grants also help life-saving mission programs like our Patrick F. Taylor Hope Lodge in New Orleans and Road To Recovery efforts.
