What To Expect
We are so fortunate that this year’s event is co-chaired by Dr. Neil Duplantier (Orthopedic with the Bone & Joint Clinic) and Dr. Amy Rivere (Breast Surgeon at Ochsner). We welcome all patrons from the medical community as well as local supporters of CAGNO & Breastoration. Live music will be provided by the Bucktown All-Stars. Guests will enjoy complimentary spirits, fine local cuisine and the chance to bid on many enticing items during the silent auction. Viva La Cure’s exclusive Cha Cha Cha Sponsor is AVALA. AVALA is a state-of-art medical, physical therapy, and imaging provider for patients on the Northshore. Two special honorees will be highlighted that evening. John T. Cole, MD and Chairman of Community Oncology Practices at Ochsner will be presented with the 2018 Hope Award. This is in recognition of his dedication, support and offering of hope to local cancer patients. Katie Boudreaux, creator of Kicking Against Cancer in honor of Melisa Garcia, is the recipient of the 2018 Heart of CAGNO Award. Each year, Katie generously raises funds to support someone battling with cancer.
This benefit was inspired by William J. Burtch, who learned about CAGNO from a fellow cancer patient. Mr. Burtch felt inspired to give help & hope to others through CAGNO, even as he was losing his own fight with Merkel Cell Carcinoma. His legacy is honored each year in the continuation of Viva La Cure.
About The Cancer Association Of Greater New Orleans
The Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans provides financial assistance to local cancer patients in the following parishes: Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, St. Charles, Washington, Assumption, Lafourche, St. Mary, Terrebonne, & St. John the Baptist.
CAGNO’s patient services program provides vital prescription medications and necessities to cancer patients who otherwise would have to do without. Those necessities crucial to the comfort and recovery of local cancer patients include chemo-therapeutic agents, antibiotics, anti-nausea and pain relieving medications as well as colostomy supplies, bed pads and other sick room equipment. The Breastoration program financially assists and educates women contemplating reconstruction options following a diagnosis of breast cancer. CAGNO also strongly believes that education is a key tool in lowering cancer incidence and mortality in the Greater New Orleans area. By offering a variety of classes in cancer prevention to area schools and businesses, CAGNO is successfully achieving this goal. By supporting CAGNO & Breastoration, you are ensuring the continued success of these programs.
