Jazz Fest is almost here, and if you are going, you better start planning now. This Festival is not a sprint it is a marathon. The Festival runs from Thursday through Sunday the last weekend of April and the first weekend of May. This year, the Jazz Fest celebrates its 50th anniversary. It’s held at the Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in New Orleans. The 10-day cultural feast will feature thousands of musicians, cooks and craftspeople welcome around 400,000 visitors. So be prepared, no matter which days you decide to go it will be very crowded at Jazz Fest. The festival showcases unforgettable music on multiple stages, delicious Louisiana cuisine in two large food areas, and crafts artisans from the region and around the world demonstrating and selling their work. What Not To Bring
Basically bring nothing to Jazz Fest you don’t want to lose. Again, the crowds will be massive and while you are dancing and enjoying your favorite band’s stuff may fall out of your bag. It is not wise to bring you cute Flip Flops to Jazz Fest. Again, the Fair Grounds will be very crowded and if it rains, the venue can become very muddy. If you decide to show up in Flip Flops, you might lose them in the mud. We have seen it happen more than once. Others also may accidentally step on your toes. You won’t be allowed to bring hard-sided coolers to Jazz Fest. You won’t be able to bring any outside beverages except your own water (sealed bottle). You will have to leave your pets at home. Neither tents, nor canopies or large beach style umbrellas are allowed at Jazz Fest. Your spiffy new drone won’t make it inside either. You cannot bring weapons or video and audio recording equipment with you. And, unfortunately, reserving a tarp space larger than 6′ X 8′ is strictly prohibited at Jazz Fest. Also, make sure you have everything you need before you get in, since a re-entry to the festival isn’t allowed unless either. Make sure to find out where your nearest bathrooms are and try to plan ahead of time because the lines will be long. What To Bring
Consider Jazz Fest a little bit like a camping trip. You will need to prepare for every kind of weather. It can be very hot, but it may also rain. If it does rain, the venue will become very muddy. So pack a raincoat and a small (personal-sized) umbrella, but also bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat. If it’s really sunny a long sleeve shirt will help keep the sun off you. Since Jazz Fest it held at the Fair Grounds Race Course, there is no shade, and remember, you cannot bring in any shade canopies. Bug spray is also essential since this is New Orleans and the mosquitoes will be out in full force. Pack all your essentials wisely since you can only bring a small or backpacks (17″ X 12″X 10″) with you to Jazz Fest. You can bring a cooler a 12-pack or smaller soft cooler for your personal factory-sealed water bottles. You might even consider bringing a single collapsible chair since you have a long day ahead of you and may need a break from dancing now and then. If you bring a blanket or tarp, keep in mind it can only be 6′ X 8′ or less.
