A new immersive interdisciplinary performance with long time collaborator, Louis Michot, best known as the fiddle player and lead-singer for the Grammy award winning Lost Bayou Ramblers. Michot is releasing his first solo record, Rêve du Troubadour, in Fall of 2023. It is a deeply personal record that sees Michot continuing to evolve and push the boundaries of Louisiana French music traditions.
The album’s title, “Rêve du Troubadour” — “The Troubadour’s Dream” in English — refers to the manner in which Michot pulls his music from dreams into daylight, then fills it with storytelling. Though Michot has published over 100 songs, he feels that Rêve du Troubadour is his first collection of “writing” as these songs tell their stories in much greater depth than he’s achieved before and utilize words peculiar to Louisiana French which seldom appear in musical compositions.
Michot will use the 1940’s recording of the Ivory Billed Woodpecker and other field recordings to augment the natural environment of the Music Box Village, and with a cast of collaborators will respond to the calls of nature using the invented instruments of the Music Box Village. The songs on Rêve du Troubadour will be woven throughout the performance, accompanied by lyric videos that feature home videos from Michot’s houseboat studio in Arnaudville, LA. The lyric videos will translate the Louisiana French into English so that audiences are further brought into the stories behind these songs.
