Two trailblazing artists come together for an incredibly special night in the Music Box Village: Meridian Brothers & THAO
Colombian guitarist and composer Eblis Alvarez started Meridian Brothers twenty years ago as a vehicle for his own experimental music. Over the years, the group has evolved into a five-piece band focused on re-interpreting all manners of Latin Tropical styles with a strong psychedelic and experimental sensibility. The Meridian Brothers’ music uses popular Latin American rhythms, augmented by sampling techniques, elaborate effect processing, and Eblis’ quirky and theatrical vocals, which channel imaginary characters with both pathos and humor. Their last appearance in New Orleans was a nearly sold out Music Box show in 2022!
Thảo Nguyễn (better known simply as “Thao”) is a veteran artist, songwriter, touring musician and producer, originally from Northern Virginia. Throughout her impressive career, she’s released music via legendary labels Kill Rock Stars and Domino Record Co. imprint Ribbon Music. Thao has been featured by The New York Times, NPR, Austin City Limits, Pitchfork, Washington Post, and many more. Thao was also the subject of the 2017 PBS documentary film “Nobody Dies,” exploring her first trip to Vietnam as the daughter of refugees living in diaspora.
