Hanukkah Dinner At Shaya

Canukkah or Hanukkah is a special time of year that is celebrated for eight nights. Hanukah means “dedication” and it is named this because it celebrates the re-dedication of the Holy Temple. The Tradition of Hanukkah started a long time ago.

In the second century BCE, the Holy Land was ruled by the Syrian Greeks (Seleucids) who tried to force the people of Israel to accept their culture instead of their own. Against all odds, a small group of Jewish people led by Judah the Maccabee defeated one of the greatest armies and drove the Greeks from the land and reclaimed the Holy Temple of Jerusalem.

But, still many people wonder about the the eight nights of Hanukah. Well, when the group went to the temple and tried to light the Temple’s Menorah, they found only enough oil to light the menorah for one day. But, the one day supply of oil lasted eight whole days and this is the reason why Hanukkah is celebrated for eight nights.

On December 23, 2019, Shaya Restaurant invited everyone to celebrate Hanukkah Dinner together- Let All Who Are Hungry Come Eat.
