New Orleans Is Moving To Phase 2

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced earlier this week that the city will be moving into Phase 2 of the reopening process on Saturday, June 13, 2020. This comes as the city has not seen any increases in its daily count of new COVID-19 cases since Phase 1 started.

During Phase Two, many businesses including restaurants, cafes and coffee shops, shopping malls (including food courts, following restaurant guidance), bars with food service, gyms and fitness centers, barber and beauty shops and nail salons, massage establishments, spas, and tattoo establishments will be able to open at 50 percent occupancy.  This also includes places of worship and movie theaters. Both are allowed to have up to 250 people. Museums (including children’s museums), zoos, aquariums will also be allowed to open at limited capacity. Bars and breweries without a food license may open at 25 percent capacity. During Phase 2, casinos will open with an occupancy limited to 25 percent and only with 50 percent of gaming tables open. Outdoor pools will be allowed to open with limited capacity during Phase 2.

Some regulations on summer camps will also be relaxed. We will still need to practice social distancing and follow strict sanitation guidelines during Phase Two.

What Will Remain Closed During Phase 2

For now, the following establishments will not be able to open: carnivals, amusement parks, water parks, fairs, contact sports, children’s indoor play centers, arcades, trampoline parks, theme parks, concert and music halls, and other similar businesses. Live entertainment is not permitted inside any building or indoor function. During Phase 2, second lines and parades continue to be prohibited.

There is no set time frame on how long Phase 2 will last. Officials say they will continue to monitor the number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations
