GRAMMY® Award Nominated, 5x-Blues Music Award Winner & 10x-Blues Music Award Nominated Guitarist, Singer & Songwriter SUE FOLEY’s last acclaimed album ‘PINKY’S BLUES’(2022), is named after Sue Foley’s pink paisley Fender Telecaster electric guitar that has been such a major part of Foley’s life for all these years. Part of that is the total devotion Sue Foley has to the guitar, and in particular to the one she calls Pinky that has been with her for decades and continues to play on this album. Foley feels it’s almost a living extension of who she is and helps guide her through the rambunctiously deep renditions of everything she performs. Foley’s album ‘Pinky’s Blues’ won the 2022 Blues Music Award for “Traditional Blues Album of the Year.”
Sue Foley is a multi award-winning musician and of the one of the finest Blues and Roots artists working today. Foley spent her early childhood in Canada, mesmerized by her father’s guitar and started her professional career at sixteen. By 21, Foley was living in Austin, TX and recording for Antone’s—the esteemed blues label and historic nightclub that helped launch the career of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Foley’s first release, ‘Young Girl Blues’, quickly rooted her unique talents as a proficient blues guitarist, inspired songwriter and captivating vocalist. Foley has toured steadily with her band, toting her signature pink paisley Fender Telecaster—working and sharing the stage with greats such as BB King, Buddy Guy, Lucinda Williams and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. In 2001, she won the prestigious Juno Award (Canadian equivalent of the Grammy) for her CD, ‘Love Coming Down’. Foley also holds the record for the most Maple Blues Awards (27) and has earned three “Trophees de Blues de France”.
Foley has garnered 10 Nominations at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis, TN – winning her first Blues Music Award in 2020 for “Traditional Blues Female Artist of the Year” which she went on to win again in 2022, 2023 & 2024! She was also Nominated for “Traditional Blues Female Artist of the Year” in 2011 & 2019, as well as “Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year” in 2003 and 2021. In 2019, her song “The Ice Queen” was Nominated for “Song of the Year.”
In 2016, Foley returned to Austin, TX and started collaborating with some of her old friends and many Texas musical legends including Jimmie Vaughan and Billy F Gibbons (ZZ Top). Foley is the only female member of the famed “Jungle Show” which features Gibbons, Jimmie Vaughan, B3 virtuoso Mike Flanigin and Chris ‘Whipper’ Layton (formerly of Steve Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble). “The Jungle Show” was one of the hottest tickets in Austin in 2016. After playing two sold out shows at Austin City Limits Live 3TEN Club in December, Foley entered the studio with her Texan pals and laid down tracks for what was undoubtably one of her best and most successful album to date; ‘The Ice Queen’.
As with many blues women of the past, Foley has a long history of defying convention and being a positive role model for aspiring, young female musicians.
