Jazz Fest 2020 has been canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. That’s why New Orleans Radio station WWOZ came up with Jazz Festing in Place. It will broadcast Jazz Fest performances all 8 days for 8 hours each day– 11am-7pm, the same days and hours as the originally-scheduled Jazz Fest!( April 23-26 and April 30-May 3).
The special broadcast is meant to lift your spirits during the Stay-At-Home Order.
“Pull out your festival shirts, hats, flags, chairs and get ready to celebrate the best of New Orleans music from your backyard, your front porch or your air-conditioned living room-anywhere in the world!”WWOZ
Now is the time to start planning your Jazz Festing in Place. WWOZ has released the ‘cubes’ for the virtual Jazz Fest. The schedule of archived Jazz Fest performances will start tomorrow (April 23).
Fats Domino, Irma Thomas, Dr. John, Trombone Shorty, The Radiators, Allen Toussaint and the Neville Brothers are scheduled in the “headlining slots”.
And that’s not all, the broadcast will also include interview segments highlighting the music, food, crafts and heritage of New Orleans. “Fire Benefit” featuring Professor Longhair, the Wild Magnolias, and Dr. John will also air during the special broadcast.
Don’t miss out and enjoy Jazz Festing in Place this year. Jazz Fest will be back next year. The popular event is now scheduled to take place April 22- May 2, 2021.
