“Parasols on Parade” by the Krewe of Themis

January 13 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free

The Krewe of Themis (kreweofthemis.com) will host its fifth annual umbrella showcase at Angela King Gallery (angelakinggallery.com) on January 16 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

“Parasols on Parade” will be the public’s chance to get an early look at these one-of-a-kind pieces of art handcrafted by Themis Titanesses with love, spectacular creativity and endless amounts of glitter.

The nearly 40 exhibit pieces are part of a larger collection of bedazzled umbrellas to be thrown to lucky revelers at the Krewe’s ride, with the Krewe of Freret, on February 7.

From elegant and traditional, to quirky and avant-garde, Themis sisters have transformed umbrellas into fairy gardens, treasure chests and more. The umbrellas on display will honor national legends and local institutions, and visitors will marvel in the intricate details and imaginative concepts behind each parasol, while supporting local artists.

Themis chose umbrellas as the Krewe’s signature throw for their significant representation of carnival season and New Orleans culture. Symbolizing protection, power, femininity, fashion, prestige, prosperity and more, these special parasols are in line with the Krewe’s overall spirit and mission.

Angela King Gallery has for over four decades showcased hundreds of artists, and currently focuses on 25 contemporary painters and sculptors working in a variety of media.
