Campaign Kick Off: Kelsey Foster, District C

July 23 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Free

Join us to kick off economic development leader, Kelsey Foster’s, candidacy for New Orleans City Council District C at Parleaux Beer Lab, Wednesday, July 23, at 5:30 pm

Civic leader, economic development expert and longtime community advocate Kelsey Foster is proud to officially announce her candidacy for New Orleans City Council District C. With over 15 years of experience in public service, policy and community engagement, Foster brings a bright, pragmatic vision for a more equitable, transparent and thriving New Orleans.

“District C stands at the forefront of New Orleans’ future,” said Foster. “We need leadership who understands the complexities of economic growth and has a proven record of putting community voices at the center. I’m ready to lead with experience and a deep commitment to putting fairness and transparency first for all New Orleans families.”

Most recently, Foster served as Executive Director of the Algiers Economic Development Foundation. Her leadership has been recognized with numerous awards, including CityBusiness’ The Power List and Gambit’s 40 Under 40.

Cornerstones of Kelsey’s vision include:

  • Housing & Affordability: Enforcing short-term rental laws, investing in affordable housing and addressing the insurance crisis.
  • Better Wages, Real Jobs: This includes proactive support for workforce pipelines and an outreach plan to assist youth and those returning from incarceration.
  • Economic Empowerment: Supporting small businesses, reforming permitting processes and increasing business attractivity to District C.
  • Safe, Accessible Transportation: Advocating for sustainable ferry funding, expanded transit options and equitable parking solutions for service industry workers.
  • Community Power & Good Government: Promoting transparency through centralized financial reporting, participatory budgeting and publishing transparent budget data across all branches of city government.

As a campaign director at Committee for a Better New Orleans, Foster launched the Big Easy Budget Game, an award-winning civic tool that demystified the city’s budget and empowered thousands of residents to engage in local governance. She brings her expertise to a wide range of civic boards, including the West Bank Business and Industry Association, University of Holy Cross President’s Advisory Board, Committee for a Better New Orleans and Old Algiers Main Street. A former neighborhood president, Kelsey served as the President of the Algiers Point Association for several years and hopes to build a community where all New Orleanians can feel empowered to engage in their local government decision making.

“I believe in a New Orleans where everyone – regardless of zip code – can live with dignity, access opportunity and feel heard by their government,” said Foster. “Our leaders should deliver on the fundamental basics every single time. This campaign is about building that future together.”
