Hogs for the Cause: A New Orleans Tradition with a Powerful Impact
The aroma of slow-smoked pork once again filled the air at the UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans as Hogs for the Cause returned on April 4th and 5th, 2025. This annual barbecue and music festival has grown into a beloved tradition, not just for its mouthwatering food and lively entertainment, but for the profound impact it had on families battling pediatric brain cancer.
What began as a small gathering of friends with a shared passion for barbecue blossomed into a major fundraising force. Hogs for the Cause brought together over 90 barbecue teams who competed fiercely in categories ranging from whole hog to creative pork-centric dishes. Attendees had the unique opportunity to sample these culinary creations, cast their votes for the “Fan Favorite,” and directly supported the participating teams through donations.
Beyond the barbecue, the festival featured a diverse lineup of talented musicians, drawing crowds of over 30,000 people.

The 2025 headliners included Charley Crockett, Stephen Wilson Jr., and Zach Top, promising a weekend filled with captivating performances across various genres. This vibrant atmosphere created a unique backdrop for the event’s core mission: to provide crucial financial and emotional support to families affected by pediatric brain cancer.
Pediatric brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in children in the United States. Hogs for the Cause has become the premier nationwide funding source dedicated to addressing the outreach needs of these families. Through the dedication of its organizers, participating teams, and generous attendees, the festival raised millions of dollars. These funds provided direct grants to families, helping to alleviate the immense financial burdens associated with medical treatments and care. Additionally, Hogs for the Cause supported hospital programs and pediatric housing initiatives, further extending its reach and impact.

The spirit of community and giving was palpable throughout the Hogs for the Cause weekend. It was an event where people came together to enjoy good food and music while contributing to a cause that touched countless lives. The success of Hogs for the Cause was a testament to the power of collective action and the deep-rooted compassion within the New Orleans community and beyond. As the 2025 edition approached, the anticipation was high for another weekend of incredible barbecue, fantastic music, and most importantly, making a tangible difference in the lives of children and their families facing the challenges of pediatric brain cancer.
