What’s In A Hurricane

It’s probably the most popular drink with visitors to the French Quarter. However, locals equally love the sweet red or orange Hurricane which is usually served with a big cherry and an orange slice. The hurricane is a sweet alcoholic drink made with rum and fruit juices. It is a sweet drink that is made all over the world, but everyone down in New Orleans makes it with their own unique twist. The drink was born on bourbon street in the 1940s and has been popular all over the French Quarter since in various forms from on the rocks to frozen. They say the name for the drink came from the glass it’s served in that resembles a hurricane lamp. Make your own or come try one at Mulate’s Cajun Restaurant.
